What will our grandkids think?

This is in regard to an Oct. 11 Fence Post letter written by Jim Finnegan. I respect his freedom to express himself and hope he will always hold strong to his beliefs. I shall continue to agree to disagree with them.

After reading his letter, my knee-jerk reaction was to disregard it and move on, but I could not. Ironically, Mr. Finnegan does exactly what he disrespectfully accuses our president of doing — talking out of both sides of his mouth. He complains about one of his freedoms being denied yet proceeds to deny a freedom that he has had for 6,000 years to another group of fellow countrymen because God created them with a sexual orientation different from his. He would even go as far as to have it written into the Constitution that his freedom to marry is the standard and must be denied to other Americans because their freedom to marry would, in some delusional way, alter his.

Instead of disregarding Mr. Finnegan’s letter, I folded it neatly and respectfully and placed it into a time capsule that I will give to my grandson. Years from now he will open it and share this letter with his grandson. I pray, to the same God that Mr. Finnegan prays to, that my grandson’s grandson will read it and say, “Wow, Grandpa, did people actually think like this at one time?”

Indeed. But, Mr. Finnegan, this is just my own opinion, that all people are created equal and entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I could try to impose my views on you by moving to write these tenets into a famous document, but that has already been done and with good reason — for the good and well being of all Americans.
