Kitchen fire damages downtown Libertyville bar and grill
A kitchen fire broke out at Morgan’s Bar and Grill in downtown Libertyville Wednesday night, filling the restaurant with some and causing some damage to the ceiling of the kitchen, according to fire officials.
When firefighters arrived at the restaurant and bar, 532 N. Milwaukee Ave., just after 8 p.m., there were flames blowing out of the back vents in the rear of the building, officials said.
The restaurant was open when the fire broke out, and all customers and employees escaped without injury, said Libertyville Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Cloe.
The flames spread from the pizza ovens in the kitchen to the ceiling but were contained to the kitchen, Cloe said.
Smoke from the fire filled the dining and bar area as well as some apartments above the restaurant, but flames did not extend into the apartments, officials said.
Cloe said he expects the kitchen to be closed at the least today but said the bar could be open.
The cause of the fire remained unknown late Wednesday night.
The Mundelein Fire Department and Countryside Fire Protection District assisted at the scene.
