Hoffman police will take your old drugs

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for a drug disposal take-back initiative.

The initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue — according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than 7 million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs.

Studies also show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

In an effort to address this problem, the DEA, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, will conduct a drug disposal drop-off event in Hoffman Estates in late October.

Residents will be able to properly and safely dispose of accumulated, unwanted and unused prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 411 W. Higgins Road.

No liquids or needles will be accepted at this event.
