Huntley man accused of stabbing at party

A 37-year-old Huntley man could face prison time after being accused of stabbing an acquaintance in the abdomen at a party over the weekend.

Bryan G. Strang, of the 10000 block of Seeman Road, Huntley, is charged with felony aggravated battery and is due in court on Wednesday.

He is being held at the McHenry County jail on $15,000 bail, meaning he must post $1,500 to be free pending trial.

If convicted, he could face a top sentence of five years in prison, but probation also is an option.

McHenry County Sheriff's deputies were called at 12:38 a.m. Sunday to a party in the 12000 block of North Union Road in near Huntley.

Strang is accused of stabbing an acquaintance in the abdomen with a 3-inch folding knife after the two traded insults and fought in the kitchen, McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said.

“They were drinking,” Zinke said. “One guy was insulting the other guy's girlfriend.”

The victim was taken to Woodstock Centegra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Zinke said.

This weekend's arrest was not Strang's first brush with the law in McHenry County.

According to court records, Strang was arrested in November 2004 by Woodstock police and charged with battery. The charges were dropped in February 2005.

Strang also was arrested in December 2008 for domestic battery by the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.

In April 2009, he was fined $222 and put on six months supervision instead of standing trial.
