New musical to benefit Palatine senior center, food pantry
Next month Charles Dickens' enduring holiday story, “A Christmas Carol,” gets a radical new makeover with “Scrooge 2070: The Reboot.”
It is a music-filled “readers-theater” style presentation written by Marc Ross, featuring eight original songs. There will be a live quartet headed by Larry Boisen and Marti Bonne, playing music they have composed especially for this one-time-only production.
Join them at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Palatine Township Senior Citizens Center, 505 S. Quentin Road, as a trio of performers — Judith Ross, Scott Bussert and Thomas Lange — transport you into the distant future, with words, songs, and sound effects, all to re-imagine the classic tale as it might unfold in New London Biosphere, a city adrift in deep space.
“All your favorite characters from the Dickens story will be in it”, says writer/director, Marc Ross, “But some, especially the three spirits, will be presented in some highly unexpected forms. Marley's ghost, I hope, will really surprise everyone with his song ‘Marley's Game.'”
There will only be one show so if you've ever entertained the notion of Scrooge in outer space, well, here's your chance, Ross said.
“The whole idea is to create an enjoyable seasonal event that will benefit The Palatine Township Senior Center as well as the Palatine Township Food Pantry,” he added.
The $5 per person registration fee includes free refreshments. All fees benefit the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Center.
You may register by mailing, (before Nov. 10) your name, phone number and a check to Palatine Township Senior Citizens Center for the number of people attending. As an alternative, you may drop by the PTSCC office at 505 S. Quentin and register in person.
“Scrooge 2070: The Reboot” runs approximately 70 minutes.
In the spirit of the holiday season, we also encourage you to bring canned food and other nonperishables to contribute to the Palatine Township Food Pantry to help those in need at this time of year.
