Hemmens presents ‘Skippyjon Jones’ musical

Submitted by The Hemmens

Skippyjon Jones, the little kitten with big ears and even bigger dreams, comes to the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin, at 9:45 a.m. and noon Wednesday, Oct. 26. All seats are $7. For tickets, call box office at (847) 931-5900 or visit www.hemmens.org.

With Skippyjon’s big ears and wild imagination, sometimes he pretends to be a bird, a llama or a whale. One day Skippyjon catches his reflection in the mirror and exclaims, “My ears are too big for my head, my head is too big for my body. I am not a siamese cat — I am a Chihuahua!”

He dons a mask, a cape, and an accent, and transforms himself into Skippito Friskito, the greatest canine swordfighter in old Mexico! But when the local pack of Chihuahuas is terrorized by the gigantic bee, Alfredo Buzzito El Blimpo Bublebeeto Bandito, will Skippyjon be a “fraidy-cat” or the top dog?

From the creators of Theatreworks USA’s “Junie B.” and “Click, Clack, Moo,” “Skippyjon Jones” is an enchanting musical about unleashing your imagination and following your dreams. It is recommended for kids in kindergarten to third grade.

“Skippyjon Jones” is the first of the Hemmens’ Performing Arts for Young People shows, with four more shows running through March. Visit www.hemmens.org for information on all PAYP shows, including “A Christmas Carol,” “Are You My Mother?” “The Color of Justice,” and “Fancy Nancy and Other Stories.”
