Drinking, argument led to Des Plaines stabbing, cops say

A Des Plaines resident has been charged in an Oct. 15 stabbing that left another man hospitalized, authorities said Friday.

Gardner Benson, 51, of the 1700 block of South Linden Street, is charged with aggravated battery.

The stabbing occurred at Benson’s home, police reports showed. The victim was an acquaintance who had been drinking with Benson, police said.

During an argument, Benson stabbed the victim in the neck and abdomen with a 9-inch knife, police said. Benson then called 911 to report the injury, reports said.

The victim remains hospitalized at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, police said.

Benson is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 28.
