Lafayette officer slashed, driver in chase shot
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Police in Lafayette say a man slashed an officer’s face before being shot in the upper body by another officer following a chase.
City police Capt. Bruce Biggs says both wounded men were in stable condition at Lafayette hospitals after the Wednesday’s pre-dawn confrontation.
Briggs tells the Journal & Courier that officers who responded to a reported arson and fight about 5 a.m. spotted a car speeding away and began to chase it. The chase ended when the car crashed into an embankment, with the driver getting out and displaying a weapon believed to be a knife.
