Glen Ellyn cops tight-lipped in slaying probe

Investigators remain tight-lipped about the slaying of a woman in her Glen Ellyn apartment while they continue searching for her ex-husband, who has been named a person of interest.

Authorities discovered the body of 36-year-old Nancy Bustos Sunday morning in response to a well-being check requested by her family. Some reports have indicated Bustos was strangled and found in her bathtub.

Glen Ellyn Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said Wednesday that investigators can piece together some, but not all, of the sequence of events leading to the woman's death.

They continue to question neighbors at the apartment complex, located on the 0-99 block of Briar Street, to see if there's anything someone may have seen or heard.

Little information has come out of anonymous tips police have received, Holmer said.

“We're getting little pieces of info here and there,” Holmer said. “We consider them all the little pieces we all try to fit into making one big case.”

Authorities continue to search for Bustos' ex-husband, Juan Granados, who police believe may be in Mexico where he has another home.

In an interview with the Daily Herald Tuesday, Nancy Bustos' father, Richard, said Granados has family in the Chicago area as well as a brother in Texas.

Holmer said talking to Granados' family, as well as authorities down south, is “all a part” of their investigation.

“We're waiting to find and question him,” Holmer said.

Bustos filed for an order of protection against Granados in 2004 and the couple divorced in 2010, according to court records.

Holmer did not call Granados a suspect, but did say the homicide may have been a product of domestic violence.
