Two charged in Carpentersville home break-in
Two men police allege broke into a Carpentersville home and stole electronics Friday afternoon have been charged with residential burglary.
A neighbor of a home on the 900 block of Courtney Circle spotted two masked men enter the residence and called police about 1:45 p.m. Friday, Carpentersville Police Commander Tim Bosshart said.
The first officers on the scene spotted two men near the home matching the description, who both fled, police said.
Officers caught 20-year-old Alex Branch, of the 0-99 block of Oxford Road, but the second suspect eluded police, Bosshart said.
Through the investigation, police were able to identify 19-year-old Kareem Leachman, of the 400 block of North Green Street, as the second suspect. Officers arrested Leachman at his school late Tuesday afternoon, Bosshart said.
Both suspects were charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property, according to police.
Authorities said the suspects shattered the back French door of the home with a rock to get in.
They are accused of stealing a laptop computer, a camcorder, a DVD player, gold coin tokens and other electronic devices, Bosshart said.
Police found some of the stolen goods on Branch when he was arrested near the home, Bosshart said.
