St. Charles teens charged in string of burglaries

Two St. Charles teens, aged 13 and 14, have been charged after breaking into a number of unlocked vehicles and garages during two early morning crime sprees, according to police.

The teens were also charged with illegal consumption of liquor by a minor after being arrested in the Renaux Manor subdivision early Monday morning, police said.

Police responded at 3:13 a.m. Monday to the 3000 block of Deville Lane to a report of two people entering unlocked vehicles in the area. One teen was arrested after a short foot chase, and the second was caught as he attempted to flee to his home, according to police.

The suspects, who live in the area where they were arrested, were also tied to several burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of Oct. 6, police said.

The juveniles entered unlocked vehicles and a garage on the 3700 block of Matisse Drive and on the 3800 block of Deville Lane, according to police. The were in possession of stolen property when arrested.

On Oct. 6, the juveniles entered a vehicle in the driveway on the 200 block of Valley View Drive and stole a GPS unit and stole bikes from a garage on the 200 block of Sunbury Drive, police said. The boys then entered a house on the 3600 block of Antoine Place and were chased out of the residence by the homeowner, police said.

Both teens were charged with two counts of residential burglary, four counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, one count of theft and liquor consumption by a minor. The 13-year-old was also charged with resisting a police officer, and the 14-year-old was charged with possession of ammunition without a FOID card, according to police.
