Police arrest former Wisconsin legislator
MADISON, Wis. — Police say they’ve cited a former state senator for drunken driving.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Strand says his agency got a cellphone call from a driver who reported Randy Hopper was all over the road on U.S. Highway 151 late Sunday afternoon.
Strand says Hopper pulled into a grocery store parking lot, where a deputy arrested him. He was released early Monday. Strand declined to release Hopper’s blood alcohol levels.
Hopper, a 45-year-old Fond du Lac Republican, lost his seat in August in a recall election spurred by his support for Gov. Scott Walker’s collective bargaining law.
A call Monday morning to a directory listing for Hopper went unanswered. An attorney who represented Hopper in a divorce proceeding didn’t immediately return a message.
