Book award program at Frederick School

Students at Grayslake’s Frederick School this month will start the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award program.

The program annual gives an award to the author of the book voted most outstanding by students in grades four through eight in participating Illinois schools. It’s named in honor of Rebecca Caudill, who lived and wrote for nearly 50 years in downstate Urbana. The award is given in recognition for her literary talent and the universal appeal of her books.

The program aims to encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. Frederick students who read and/or hear three or more books on this year’s list will be encouraged to vote for their favorite book. Frederick is part of Grayslake Elementary District 46.
