Huskers get quick payoff from Jean-Baptiste’s move

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska’s Stanley Jean-Baptiste (zhahn-BAP’-teest) is making a smooth transition from wide receiver to cornerback. In fact, he’s challenging for a starter’s job going into Saturday’s game at Minnesota.

Jean-Baptiste made a 7-yard catch in the opener against Chattanooga but didn’t play again until the second half against the Buckeyes. His interception against Ohio State two weeks ago set up the winning touchdown in the greatest comeback in program history.

Jean-Baptiste said switching positions made sense if he wanted to get playing time.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder played safety in high school, and coaches say he took to his new position immediately.

Minnesota (1-5, 0-2 Big Ten) has had its struggles on both sides of the ball as it prepares to host Nebraska (5-1, 1-1).
