Elgin police investigate shooting
Elgin police are investigating a shooting in the 700 block of Walnut that left two people injured. Elgin police officials said a police officer heard shots fired in the area around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, and moments later, emergency communications received a call reporting a victim. Upon arrival, police and paramedics found two victims. Both were transported to area hospitals with one victim later transported to Lutheran General. Police are still investigating.

Roadways are moving along at a decent clip early this morning, but that is expected to change by rush hour. People should watch for resurfacing projects throughout the area that is starting up, like the work in Round Lake Beach on Cedar Lake Road from Rollins Road to Rosedale Court. Full traffic.
Ex-husband a “person of interest” in Glen Ellyn murder
Glen Ellyn police are searching for the ex-husband of a 33-year-old woman was found murdered in their joint apartment Sunday morning. Juan M. Grandados, 33, may have been the last person to see the victim alive and it is possible he might be headed for Mexico, according to police. The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her family, was discovered on the 0-99 block of Brian Street in Glen Ellyn around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Relatives who had not heard from her since Friday called police to conduct a well-being check. Full story.
IndyCar star dies in 15-car wreck
Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died yesterday after his IndyCar flew over another vehicle and hit a fence at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wheldon was part of a 15-car pileup that scattered flaming debris across the track. "Things happen in this kind of racing," said Wade Cunningham, also caught up in the wreck. "It's so close. Not much room for error. I was near the front of what caused all this, so I'm not thrilled about it. At this point, whose fault it was is kind of immaterial." Full story.
Bricks thrown through Arlington Heights school's windows
Police continue to look for vandals who threw bricks through several windows at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights the morning before an event organized by a group called Americans for Truth About Homosexuality. One of the bricks had a note attached to it which read, "This is just a sample of what we will do if you don't shut down Scott Lively and AFTAH." The event faced a group of protesters, who released a statement denying involvement in the vandalism. Full story.
Sketch of North Aurora home invasion suspect released
North Aurora police have released a sketch of a suspect who bound a woman with duct tape over the weekend during a home invasion. Two men entered the home of a 44-year-old woman on Friday morning, beat her, and bound her hands and covered her eyes with tape before robbing her, police said. One of the suspects removed a gold necklace from around the victim's neck during the robbery. Full story.
Former Metra CEO spent $60,000 on company card in 1 year
As Metra prepared to pass fare hikes to deal with a $53 million deficit in 2012, a look at former CEO Phil Pagano's company American Express Card gives a look into the scandalous budgetary history. From 2004 to 2005, Pagano racked up more than $60,000 in charges for posh hotels, conferences in Hawaii, golf equipment and jewelry to name a few. A Freedom of Information Act request revealed the new transgressions. Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said new CEO Alex Clifford does not have a company credit card. Full story.
Hester explodes for 2 TDs as Bears crush Vikings
The Bears are back at .500 following a dominating 39-10 blowout win over the Minnesota Vikings last night. The defense pressured quarterback Donovan McNabb all game, scoring a safety in the first quarter, Devin Hester shredded the kickoff coverage for another return touchdown, and Jay Cutler played a solid, mistake-free game. Hester also scored on a 48-yard touchdown pass but was also injured in the game. Full story.
Blackhawks start strong, but power play lacking
The Blackhawks' 2-1-1 start to the season is nothing to be upset about, but the team is 2-for-17 on the power play in the first four games and gave up a short-handed goal to the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
