Chicago Wilderness Alliance Welcomes New Corporate Council Member: Serosun Farms

Serosun Farms recently joined the Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council, an integral member of the Chicago Wilderness alliance, a diverse group of organizations working together to restore local nature and improve the quality of life in our region, stretching from southeastern Wisconsin, through northeastern Illinois, into northwestern Indiana and southwestern Michigan.

Serosun Farms is a sustainable community in northern Kane County near the towns of Hampshire and Burlington. More than 300 acres of the development will be preserved as open space and farmland; a significant portion of this area will be protected through an agricultural conservation easement, which will ensure that it remain as agricultural and green space.

Through programs such as the Day of Service – an annual event to encourage volunteerism – Serosun Farms and the other members of the Corporate Council are committed to fostering a sustainable relationship between people and nature and actively support the long-term protection, restoration and stewardship of the region's lands and waters.

Members of the Council also strive to promote and use best practices in the design and management of their facilities and properties. Serosun Farms has implemented best management practices in sustainable development, focusing specifically on the following goals:

• Innovative land use management

• Soil and water resource conservation

• Wildlife habitat management

• Sustainable farming practices

• Utilization of renewable energy resources

• Green and sustainable building practices

• Community, cultural and educational programs

“Serosun Farms Estates is excited to be part of Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council. We have respect and admiration for Chicago Wilderness and what they have accomplished in the region so far and hope that we at Serosun can contribute to their continued success,” said John DeWald, President, Serosun Farms. “We believe in the mission of the Council and that it very much parallels our own and is important for the long-term sustainability and success of our communities and region.”

”We welcome Serosun Farms to the Corporate Council,” said Jim Jerozal, chair of the Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council and General Manager of Energy Efficiency, Nicor Gas. “The diverse organizations of the Corporate Council unite to propel a vision of sustainability, healthy nature, and a high quality of life for people and nature in this region. Serosun Farms will be an exciting new partner to help advance this shared vision.”

“We are so pleased to have Serosun Farms join Chicago Wilderness,” said Melinda Pruett-Jones, Executive Director of Chicago Wilderness. “They will be a strong partner in our regional conservation efforts.”
