Judson University sports report
The Judson University men’s and women’s cross country teams boasted two NCCAA National Runners of the Week for their performances at the St. Ambrose Invitational.
Nate Nevius earned the program’s first NCCAA National Runner of the Week award for a second-place finish in the 8K with at time of 27:35. Judson finished third of six teams. Sarah Miller helped her team to a second-place finish at St. Ambrose and the team was just one point away from winning the meet. She finished second in the race of 91 runners of the 5K with a time of 20:09. The women’s team also gained 49 votes in the NAIA National Poll which puts them at 29th overall.
Women’s soccer: Judson moved up one spot in the NAIA National Poll to 22nd as the Eagles continued their program-best 12-match unbeaten streak. Judson posted wins over Indiana Tech, 2-0, and Cardinal Stritch, 2-0, to stay at 6-0 in the CCAC. Jenna Steffensen led the offense with 2 goals and 1 assist while Angela Bianchi had 1 goal and 2 assists. Sara Hoffman earned 2 more shutouts to bring her season total to 9 as she now has a 0.44 goals against average. Judson is now 12-1-1 and 6-0 in the CCAC.
Men’s soccer: Staying in the hunt for the CCAC regular season championship, Judson came from behind to defeat Cardinal Stritch, 2-1. Tom Kruse tied the match in the 72nd minute and then Mike Tobie hit a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for the win. Judson is now 9-5 and 5-1 in the CCAC and receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll.
Volleyball: Carissa Oelke had her third and fourth 20-kill matches of the year in back-to-back matches. She posted 20 kills vs. Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday and then had 20 kills vs. North Park on Friday at the North Central College Invitational. She now has 323 kills on the year. Judson is now 9-19 on the year and 3-5 in the CCAC. Judson will host the Dig Pink matches on Saturday vs. St. Ambrose at 11 a.m. and Trinity Christian at 3 p.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center.
