Education is parents’, not government’s duty

It is an undeniable fact that no matter the socioeconomic background of any child, if the parents show great concern for and are intricately involved in their child’s education, that child will do exceptionally well in school.

“Indeed, research indicates a strong link between parental involvement and student achievement.” -- Dan Jesse.

“The results indicate that the influence of parental involvement overall is significant for secondary school children. The positive effects of parental involvement hold for both white and minority children.” -- William Jeynes.

The comic by Bill Day that appeared in the Oct. 4 issue of the Daily Herald shows exactly how incorrect is the idea that substantial funding is the most essential factor for the success of a child’s education.

Instead of the parents taking responsibility for their child’s education by having high expectations and becoming involved in the education of their child, the parents blame the government for not spending enough money.

Parents, stop blaming others for your child’s lack of education and take responsibility for it yourselves so that you can be proud of their accomplishments.
