Meet Dundee Township residents who played role in Civil War

Submitted by Dundee Township Historical Society

The biennial Dundee Township Cemetery Walk will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, with the last tour heading out at 3:30 p.m.

Residents of Dundee Township who played a role in the Civil War will be portrayed by costumed interpreters. Hear their stories and learn more about Dundee Township during that time.

The Civil War re-enactors from the 9th Virginia Company B battery will set up camp on the cemetery grounds. They will demonstrate how difficult life was on the Civil War battlefields and will periodically fire a period canon.

The event will highlight the first Civil War monument erected in Kane County, in 1866 in the Dundee Township West Cemetery. The names of 40 Dundee Township Civil War veterans are forever etched into three sides of the monument, as a reminder of their heroism and ultimate sacrifice.

A $5 donation per person is requested. Tours begin at the Dundee Township Historical Museum, 426 Highland Ave., West Dundee. For details, call (847) 428-6996.
