Open beer trailer in Buffalo Grove 'heaven' for man
A man who stumbled on an open beer trailer stored in Buffalo Grove and began drinking later told police he thought he had “died and gone to heaven.”
Cmdr. Steve Husak of the Buffalo Grove Police Department said Friday the unidentified 46-year-old man who lives in an unincorporated area in Lake County was discovered highly intoxicated about noon Tuesday by beer trailers stored outside of a banquet facility in the 300 block of Weiland Road.
Husak said the trailers are used at events held outside of the banquet hall, and were basically large refrigerators on wheels with beer taps located on the outside.
Usually, the kegs inside the refrigerators are disconnected and the trailers locked when not in use, but in this instance, the tap was still live.
He said employees of the banquet hall saw the man drinking and phoned police.
“He was in good spirits when the officers arrived and spoke with him,” Husak said. “He told officers that he had ‘died and gone to heaven,' and admitted he had been drinking at the location for awhile.”
The man was taken to Northwest Community Hospital to make sure he wasn't suffering from alcohol poisoning and was later released without charges, police said.
