Illinois fugitive ‘corn’ered by police, farmer

KANKAKEE) — The Kankakee corn crop looked like a field of dreams for a fugitive: Right up until the police realized there was a farmer with a combine ready to do some harvesting.

About 90 minutes after Mark Tanner fired up the combine Wednesday and start chewing away at the hiding place the Kankakee resident walked out of the field and into police custody. Tanner was getting ready to harvest anyway, although not with the bullet proof vest police gave him.

The Daily Journal ( http://bit.ly/qkEsL5 ) reports the fugitive ran into the field after jumping from a vehicle that sheriff’s police officer pulled over. He now faces charges related to leading police on a chase.
