Ÿ Vince Owens, 43, of the 1200 block of Amanda Circle, Elgin, faces several charges stemming from an incident on a Pace bus that spilled over into an altercation with police officers, leaving one with slight injuries, according to a police report. Police were dispatched at 5:53 p.m. Wednesday to Howard Avenue and Main Street. According to Police Chief Terry Mee, Owens made unwanted advances to a woman on the bus. When she declined his advances, Owens became unruly and obnoxious with her and the passengers, leading him to push a woman who stood between him and the woman who had rejected him, police said. Owens also pushed and took a swing at an officer and a second officer injured himself when he took Owens down to the ground, Mee said. Owens was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting or obstructing a police officer, battery, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. His bail was set Thursday morning at $50,000. He needs to pay $5,000 to get out of jail while his case is pending.

Ÿ Someone stole two boxes of cigars from a gas station Wednesday in the 300 block of South State Street, police said. According to reports, the cigars were worth $70 and the suspect, described as a black man in his mid-20s, hid the boxes under his sweatshirt before exiting the store.
Ÿ Someone pried open the back door to a home Wednesday in the 500 block of Cookane Avenue and stole five gold rings, two gold necklaces, three gold bracelets, $5 cash, gold tie racks, a men’s white gold wedding band that contained three diamonds, and gardening tools, police said.
