Civil War encampment in Dundee cemetery

If you’re a Civil War buff, the Dundee Township Historical Society has something right up your alley.

The society is holding a Civil War-themed cemetery walk from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.

As part of the event, a cannon will be fired at certain intervals, tents depicting miliary life on the battlefield will be on display and actors in costume will portray Dundee Township residents who had roles in the war.

Tours begin at the museum and a $5 donation is suggested. The event will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 at 301 Lake Marian Road. Dinner includes a salad bar, garlic bread, Italian sausage, homemade meatballs and of course, spaghetti sauce. Dessert will be served and beverages include coffee, tea and milk. The suggested donation is $10 a person, but children younger than 4 years old are free. Kids between 4 and 11 eat at half price. Well, you#146;re in luck.The Carpentersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5915 as well as its ladies#146; auxiliary is holding its third annual Oktoberfest from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at its headquarters on 301 Lake Marian Road. Menu items include German potato salad, applesauce, red cabbage, a German roast and vegetables. For dessert, homemade apple slices will be served. German music will keep the environment festive. The suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 for children between 5 and 11 years of age. The meal is free for children under 5. For details, call (847) 428-4836.If you have any energy after that, Carpentersville#146;s park commission will be holding its own Oktoberfest the following day, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carpenter Park. The event will include a classic car show in the Otto Engineering parking lot, food, kids#146; activities, a beer garden and a cyclocross race. The car show is meant to help pay for maintenance of the Carpentersville Fire Department#146;s 9/11 memorial.
