Quade takes low-key approach to situation

Lost amid the flurry of Theomania is the effect the hiring will have current Cubs manager Mike Quade.

Quade, who just returned from a brief vacation away from baseball, said he doesn't know what to expect once the new regime takes over.

But, as usual, the former Prospect High School star athlete is taking a low-key approach to the apparent hiring of Theo Epstein by the Cubs.

“I probably lost way more sleep during the season trying to solve problems and figuring things out than I have with the current search and what may or may not happen. That's a fact,” Quade said Wednesday morning on “Power Alley” on MLB Network Radio. “I've been doing this a long time; we'll see how it plays out. It's a huge decision for the organization — general manager-wise — and obviously they have their sights on one of the best in the business.”

While Quade is calm, cool and collected, it didn't take long for him to realize that he's about the only one.

“I really did vanish for a week and I've got 80 million phone calls and texts and people to get back to. Everybody assumes that I'm in the loop and understand it all,” he said “Tom (Ricketts) was going to do this search and if in fact it's Theo — I know it was somebody that he was probably looking at first and foremost. Tom was up front with me that this was going to be a long process.”

One that appears to have reached its conclusion.
