Walker reviewing proposed concealed carry rules

MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker is reviewing proposed rules for implementing Wisconsin's new concealed carry law that require at least four hours of training before a permit can be given.

The law passed by the legislature required training, but it did not say how many hours. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has said four hours of training is the widely accepted minimum of what is required.

The National Rifle Association and other supporters of the law have objected to the four hour requirement. Republican state Rep. Evan Wynn said Thursday the training should be timed based on mastery, not hours.

Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie said Thursday the governor was reviewing the rules and would decide whether to accept them before the law takes effect on Nov. 1.
