Self-defense classes offered to Ill. officers
JOLIE — Will County and state officials are offering specialized self-defense training for law enforcement officers.
The first session of the free, two-day training in Krav Maga self-defense will be offered Nov. 5 and 6 near Kankakee.
Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow and the Illinois State Crime Commission are offering the sessions.
Glasgow's office says Krav Maga is the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces.
Officers will be trained in hand-to-hand combat and handgun defense, among other skills.
Officials say the training has been adapted to comply with use-of-force standards for American police departments.
Prosecutors, police administrators and police liability defense lawyers assisted with the adaptation.
More training sessions are planned.
