Reuter investigators honored:

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force was given the “Award of Excellence” by the Illinois Homicide Investigator Association for their role in cracking the Rhoni Reuter murder in Deerfield, officials said. Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko, who also serves as task for commander, and Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Patricia Fix were in attendance to receive the award from the organization earlier this week. The primary goal and responsibility of the organization is to provide training and to facilitate the exchange of information between all professionals involved in the investigation of deaths and other violent crimes. The ILHIA uses the award to acknowledge investigators who demonstrate excellence while conducting homicide and death investigations, and who exhibited the highest level of professional dedication and diligence during a violent crime or homicide investigation. Marni Yang was sentenced to life in prison in May for murdering Reuter and her unborn child in October 2007.
