Marquette to keep ban as concealed carry starts

MADISON, Wis. — Marquette University officials say they won’t change their policy on weapons on campus as Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law takes effect.

The university currently bars weapons in academic buildings, offices and residence halls. The university plans to post signs on those buildings to preserve prohibitions under the concealed carry statutes. People will be allowed to carry in outdoor areas of campus, in student apartments, buildings leased from the university or in university lots or structures.

The law, which takes effect Nov. 1, allows Wisconsin residents who get permits to carry hidden weapons. Generally, they’ll be allowed to carry into most buildings except ones with a sign that clearly prohibits it.
