15 years, hefty fine for Elgin cocaine deal

A former Palatine man was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined nearly $97,000 for his role in a 2009 cocaine deal in Elgin.

Kane County Judge Karen Simpson sentenced Elauterio Pacheco, 29, of the 600 block of East Baldwin Road, and fined him $96,700 after a jury convicted him of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, according to court records.

Authorities said Pacheco and another man, Raul Lara, 25, of the 200 block of Crystal Street, Elgin, expected to receive $59,000 for selling two kilograms of cocaine Sept. 10, 2009, in Elgin.

Instead of getting money, the pair were arrested because the buyer was an undercover Elgin Police officer.

Lara pleaded guilty in spring 2010 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, authorities said.

Pacheco must serve 85 percent of his sentence, or about 12 years and 9 months. He gets credit for the 2-plus years he has already spent in the Kane County jail.
