Des Plaines Community Foundation raises $15,000
In September, the Des Plaines Community Foundation held its eighth annual fundraiser at the Cube night club at the Des Plaines Rivers Casino.
According to Rosemary Argus, executive director of the foundation, more than $15,000 was raised from the event and there is still money coming in.
“We raised more than twice the amount as we did last year,” Argus said. “We thank all the donors and Des Plaines businesses who supported us. It really was a successful event.”
More than 200 people attended the event which included delectable appetizers and a gourmet dinner by Chef William Mcllroy, an open bar as well as entertainment by Ann Marie. There also was big raffle and a silent auction.
“This is our one and only fundraising event for the year,” said Argus. “For every $1 we received, the Des Plaines Community Foundation provides $12 of service to our residents. We are able to do this because we are all volunteers.”
The foundation raises funds to identify, link and mobilize assets to support the service programs of the Des Plaines Healthy Community Partnership Programs whose activities improve the lives of those that live and work in Des Plaines.
Some of the programs include: Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program Committee; Healthy Community/Healthy Youth Program Committee; Intergenerational Program Committee, and Seasons of Service program Committee.
The foundation has no paid employees and is 100 percent volunteer. Foundation is a 501c3 organization and funds are obtained from individuals, businesses, and corporate tax-deductible contributions as well as from other foundations.
