Hanover Park police name officer to enforcement unit
The Hanover Park Police Department assigned its first officer to the Strategic Enforcement and Prevention Unit. The unit has been staffed with a sergeant since its inception in January 2010, with the intention of adding an officer when the department was sufficiently staffed.
Officer George Sullivan, who is a 22-year veteran of the police department, was chosen as the Special Enforcement and Prevention Officer. Sullivan is a veteran patrol officer and a member of the department's Honor Guard. He is also the secretary of the departments F.O.P. chapter and president of the departments Police Pension Board.
Sullivan's duties will include the following:
Ÿ Organize community events at schools, Hanover Park Park District, Hanover Township, block parties and any other community event that the police department participates in, including the organization of the annual COPS Day picnic.
Ÿ Organizes Neighborhood Watch Program; will meet with existing/future Neighborhood Watch Block Captains when requested.
Ÿ Reviews all traffic related directed patrols and deploys to the specified area where traffic enforcement activities will commence. Will participate in DUI Wolf Packs to apprehend impaired drivers and enforce traffic laws in school zones.
Ÿ Conduct traffic surveys and interpret statistics from surveys in written reports.
Ÿ Conduct traffic accident investigations including serious accidents that require reconstruction.
Ÿ Enforce parking violations within the village. Deploy at all schools within the village and enforce local parking ordinances that enhance the safety of the students traveling to and from each school.
Ÿ Review and process all requests regarding locations that meet the criteria of a nuisance property.
Ÿ Review and process all requests regarding the trespass agreement program.
Ÿ Enforce all local ordinances regarding the operation of taxis within the village. Inspect all taxis that are subject to obtaining a business license to operate in the village.
Ÿ Conduct background checks for the village clerk of all solicitors applying to solicit in the village.
Ÿ Assist the recruitment team with school assembly presentations at the schools in the village.
Ÿ Check local establishments for BASSETT certification.
Ÿ Enforce local ordinances and state laws pertaining to violations of either code. Assist the village clerk and the liquor commission by completing a security surveys for establishments attempting to obtain a liquor license.
Ÿ Organize and conduct liquor and tobacco stings at the businesses in the village that sell these items.
