Fox Valley Rep announces 2012 season

Fox Valley Repertory on Monday announced its 2012 season, the second under the FVR moniker.

In celebration of its second season, artistic director John Gawlik announced in a prepared statement that subscribers to the five-show season will receive discounts “so that no theater ticket is more than $20.”

Productions include “Moonlight and Magnolias,” Ron Hutchinson’s behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Gone With the Wind,” directed by Kimberly Senior, who has helmed shows at Strawdog, redtwist, Next and Steppenwolf theaters. “Moonlight and Magnolias” runs from Jan. 19 to March 11.

Circle Theatre’s Kevin Bellie returns to the theater to direct “Breaking Up is Hard to Do,” a romantic comedy set to Neil Sedaka tunes. It runs March 29 to May 20. Chicago ensemble Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre remounts its 2011 hit Rodgers and Hammerstein revue “Some Enchanted Evening” from May 31 to July 22.

The subscription series continues with Deborah Zoe Laufer’s Greek-myth inspired comedy “Sirens” which premiered in 2009 at the Humana Festival of New American Plays, about a man married for 25 years who thinks about jumping the marital ship when he hears the siren’s call. It runs from Aug. 26 to Oct. 7.

The series concludes with the 1960s-inspired holiday musical “The Winter Wonderettes” featuring the fictional girl group performing tunes like “Santa Baby” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Also on tap for 2012 is FVR’s summer theater festival including Collider, the company’s new play project (July 7 to 21); the Memorial Day commemoration “Letters Home” (May 25 and 26) and the seasonal thriller “The Woman in Black” (Oct. 12-28).

Performances take place at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. (630) 584-6342 or foxvalleyrep.org.
