Chicago beefing up billboard inspections
The city of Chicago is on the lookout for illegal billboards.
In a news release, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office says that reforming the billboard inspection process and improving the process of collecting fees from billboard owners could generate $2.5 million for the city.
Emanuel says that there has been a proliferation of illegal signs in the city and that beefing up inspections will not only mean more money for the city but will ensure that billboards comply with city regulations.
The mayor plans to introduce an ordinance that will grant the city’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protections’ revenue and consumer investigators the authority to write citations for illegal signs and billboards.
