Music featured at Elgin Woman’s Club scholarship luncheon

Kym Frankovelgia will perform a repertoire of tunes as the featured entertainment at the Elgin Woman’s Club annual scholarship benefit luncheon, “An Affair to Remember” on Saturday, Oct. 22. The fundraiser will start with an 11 a.m. social time followed by a noon luncheon at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road, Elgin.

According to Georgia Ross, club president, the event will begin with piano arrangements by local artist Murna Hansemann, continue with the luncheon and Frankovelgia’s performance of a variety of musical selections. According to Ross, “The benefit is our only fundraiser for the year and promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music.” In addition, the event will feature a silent auction and raffle.

Frankovelgia, who began her career in nightclubs and on cruise ships, now entertains at private parties, social clubs and organizations. Her love of music of a bygone era includes renditions of many favorites. She has entertained with some of the finest orchestras in the country, including the Sammy Kaye Orchestra, Glenn Miller Band, Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, Maxine Andrews, Connie Haines, the Ink Spots, and the Four Lads.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the scholarship program, which offers scholarships yearly to students from local high schools who are interested in pursuing a career in health care. Patricia Gering will chair the event and Linda Fagan, Audrey Gilbert, Helen McCulloch and Virginia Madison will serve as hostesses.

The Elgin Woman’s Club was organized 124 years ago and as its first project founded Sherman Hospital in a house at the corner of North and Channing streets in Elgin. Since then the club has supported hundreds of local projects. It maintains a strong relationship with the hospital it founded more than a century ago with representation on two hospital boards.
