Teens plead guilty to vandalizing traffic monitoring device

A pair of Arlington Heights teens pleaded guilty Friday to vandalizing a police department radar trailer last summer.

Cook County Judge Hyman Reibman sentenced John J. Serola, 18, and James Hannon, 19, to 14 days in Cook County jail followed by one year of probation. Reibman also ordered the teens to perform 30 hours of community service and pay restitution.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Authorities say Serola, Hannon and Nicholas Saegebrecht caused more than $500 in damage to the device, which was used to track motorists’ speed and was located near Heritage Park in Arlington Heights.

Saegebrecht, 18, pleaded guilty to the charges in August and was sentenced to the Cook County Sheriff’s Department Impact Incarceration, also known as boot camp.
