Search scaled back for missing S. Ind. spelunker

LEAVENWORTH, Ind. — Authorities are scaling back searches of a southern Indiana forest for a spelunker who hasn’t been seen since last weekend.

Conservation Officer Cora Showalter says about 50 volunteers and emergency workers found no new signs of 25-year-old Kevin Eve during their search of Harrison-Crawford State Forest on Thursday. The Georgetown man’s car was found Monday at the forest near the Ohio River town of Leavenworth.

Showalter tells The News and Tribune of New Albany that searchers have checked numerous caves amid the rugged terrain.

Showalter tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville that a large organized search wasn’t planned for Friday, although some state employees would be in the area. She says searchers are baffled as to what has happened to Eve, but that they’ve found no signs of foul play.
