Procession, funeral planned for slain Ind. soldier
PORTER, Ind. — Plans are being made for procession and funeral to honor a soldier from northwestern Indiana who was killed in Afghanistan.
Twenty-one-year-old Army Spc. James Butz of Porter was a combat medic who died from a Sept. 28 roadside bombing that relatives say happened while he was treating an injured soldier.
Valparaiso Police Department spokesman Mike Grennes tells The Times of Munster (that Butz’s body is expected to arrive Saturday at Porter County Municipal Airport. His family plans a private service at the airport, followed by an escorted procession to a Chesterton funeral home.
A wake for the 2009 Chesterton High School graduate will be Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton, followed by a funeral Tuesday at the church.
