Village reports results of 'Recycling Extravaganza'

LOMBARD, Illinois— The Village of Lombard thanks its volunteers, residents and businesses for making the annual Recycling Extravaganza on September 24 a successful event.

Volunteers from Montini Catholic High School, Glenbard East High School, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Working Bikes Cooperative, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Family Shelter Services and the Village's Environmental Concerns Committee worked together to ensure another successful event.

More than 1,100 cars brought 42 tons of electronics, 160 car batteries, 75 bicycles, 10 pallets of paper and cardboard, five wheelchairs, 25 pairs of crutches, 500 pairs of shoes, a dumpster full of scrap metal and flags, shoes, eyeglasses and flower pots. The book recycling was very popular and a countless books were carried away.

Trustee Laura Fitzpatrick, chairwoman of the village's Environmental Concerns Committee stated, “I am proud of the staff, Environmental Concerns Committee, volunteers and all the contributing residents who keep this event running very smoothly and successfully.

"Events like the Recycling Extravaganza help keep the public aware of the vast array of recycling that can be accomplished on a regular basis. In its eleventh year, it is now a tradition,” she added.
