Wis. deputies suspect foul play in woman's death

BELOIT, Wis. — Rock County detectives are investigating possible foul play in the death of a 91-year-old woman in Beloit.

Authorities said Thursday they're looking into the circumstances of Marjorie A. Sands' death.

Deputies responded to a call Sept. 18 reporting a deceased person in Beloit. They found Sands dead with a head injury. A deputy coroner determined the cause of death to be accidental blunt-force trauma to the head that appeared consistent with a fall.

However, the sheriff's office says it received information the following week that raised suspicions about her death. So a Dane County forensic pathologist performed an autopsy and found what he said were inconsistencies with the initial cause-of-death ruling.

The case has been assigned to Rock County detectives for further investigation.
