New U of I leader happy with law school reaction

CHAMPAIGN — The new chancellor at the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus says she's happy the university is moving quickly to correct inflated law school grades that were reported to ranking organizations.

Phyllis Wise says the reaction to the law school grades issue has been appropriate and could serve as an example for other campuses.

Wise began work this month after arriving from the University of Washington. Wise told The (Champaign) News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/oEJDNX ) that she plans to remain in her position as leader of the university's flagship campus for more than five years.

Wise also says she'll remain a board member at Nike Inc. but she'll keep that work separate from the university. She was sometimes questioned because of that position while at Washington.
