Lake Zurich student brought knife to school, police say
Lake Zurich police are investigating if a student at Sarah Adams Elementary School threatened a peer while a knife was in his backpack, authorities said Thursday.
The confrontation occurred Tuesday after school in the building, Deputy Police Chief Kevin Finlon said. During the exchange between the two children, one said he had a knife, Finlon said.
It was “a perceived threat,” Finlon said.
No one was hurt, he said. No charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made.
Police learned of the incident Wednesday morning and have spoken with the children and their parents, Finlon said. Police believe one of the children had a kitchen knife in his backpack, but he did not show the knife to the other student, Finlon said.
Detectives have not identified or recovered the knife believed to have been brought to school.
Police are working with parents and Lake Zurich Unit District 95 officials to investigate the matter. No safety concerns exist for parents or students at the school, Finlon said.
In a statement emailed to the Daily Herald, District 95 Superintendent Mike Egan said the situation “was thoroughly investigated by the police and the school principal.”
When asked about school safety and possible disciplinary action against the boy involved, Egan said “appropriate measures have been taken” but declined to elaborate, citing the need for student confidentiality.
