Indiana pharmacist sentenced for $3.5M Medicaid fraud scheme
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A former Terre Haute pharmacist has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for what authorities say was a $3.5 million Medicaid fraud scheme.
Fifty-four-year-old John D. Love of Brazil told a federal judge during his sentencing hearing Wednesday that he wanted to repay the money. The Tribune-Star reports that Love says he lost his pharmacist license, business and marriage because of his actions.
Love pleaded guilty to submitting false Medicaid claims for thousands of prescriptions over nearly five years. Prosecutors say Love’s spending included buying real estate, 15 vehicles and a destination wedding for one of his children in Florida.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Shepard says that the size of Love’s scheme justified the 51-month sentence.
