SUV crashes into Lombard Cash Store; employees OK
Three employees were inside a Lombard cash and title loan business when a black SUV came speeding through the parking lot and straight through the front window Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The employees at The Cash Store, 266 E. Roosevelt Road, were not struck by the newer model Land Rover, but the driver, described as a woman in her 20s, was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
As of late Wednesday, police continued their investigation into why the woman, who was stuck in heavy traffic, drove up onto the parkway on Roosevelt at a high rate of speed, crossed Stewart Avenue and took a sharp turn directly into the business.
While driving on the Roosevelt Road parkway, she took out a Pace bus stop sign and a small tree, and once she crossed Stewart, she took out a second small tree before curving into the storefront, said Lombard police Sgt. William Marks.
Black tire marks could be seen where the vehicle turned through the parking lot.
When the vehicle finally came to a rest, it was completely inside the business.
“Luckily it missed two brick pillars,” Marks said.
Police said the woman could communicate “a little bit” after the crash, but the injuries were not severe.
