Procurement services team receives national, international awards

Chief Procurement Officer Mike Bevis Receives International Recognition

The City of Naperville is proud to announce that in recognition of its dedication to serving the City and its residents, the Procurement Services Team recently received three national awards. In addition, Chief Procurement Officer Mike Bevis received individual awards for his leadership and dedication to the procurement profession.

“The City's Procurement Services Team is committed to ensuring that taxpayers receive the maximum value for their hard-earned dollars,” Finance Director Karen DeAngelis said. “These professionals are committed to ethics and efficiency and are proven leaders in the field of government purchasing. Congratulations to Mike and his team.”

For the 12th year in a row, the Procurement Services Team received the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award (AEP) from the National Purchasing Institute (NPI). The AEP is awarded annually to those organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a minimum score on a rating of standardized criteria. The program is designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

The team also received 100 percent certification and the Sterling Award from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC), whose mission is to identify and continuously advance the professional standards that demonstrate competency in the public procurement profession. The 100 percent certification indicates every member of the Procurement Services Team holds certification with the UPPCC. The Sterling Award is given after three consecutive years of 100 percent staff certification; Naperville's Procurement Services Team last received this award in 2007.

In addition to the team awards, Chief Procurement Officer Mike Bevis received the National Institute of Governmental Procurement's (NIGP) Distinguished Service Award, the organization's second highest individual award that recognizes professionals who have provided extraordinary service to their entity, their community, the NIGP or the purchasing profession.

Bevis also received international recognition as the recipient of the prestigious Lewis E. Spangler Purchasing Professional Award from the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) for his outstanding achievements and the development of new and innovative processes. The Lewis E. Spangler Award is presented to an individual coming from a company or association where he or she has proved an outstanding commitment to the profession of Purchasing and Supply Management by evidence of successful contribution to the bottom line as well as by support given to their collaborators in the field of education and training.
