Buffalo Grove mystery writer to discuss her books
Buffalo Grove mystery author Jennie Spallone will discuss two of her books at the Indian Trails Public Library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling.
Spallone, who leads the Library's Evening Book Discussion Group, will discuss her first book, “Deadly Choices,” on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the group's monthly meeting. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, she will discuss and have a book signing for her new novel, “Window of Guilt.” Both are mysteries.
“Deadly Choices” won Third Place for Mystery Fiction at the Police Writers Conference (name changed to Public Safety Writers) in Las Vegas. Spallone, an active member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America, speaks at mystery conferences throughout the country.
According to Spallone, in her college days she rallied against everything from puppy mills to book burnings. As the years progressed, her activist pursuits tempered and she turned her passion for honor and justice into the plots of suspense novels.
She says that she is fascinated with what it takes for an ethical person to slip into the abyss of immoral behavior. Is it a gradual tiptoeing over the edge of the cliff or a leaping jump? This was a question she raised in her first novel, “Deadly Choices,” where she honestly and without apology hopes readers will examine their own belief systems.
Meet Spallone at the Evening Book Discussion on Oct. 6, or the program devoted to her new novel on Nov. 9. Registration is required for both events. To register or obtain more information about these programs, call the library, at (847) 459-4100.
