Dist. 50 discussing charter schools

Woodland Elementary District 50 will host a special board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the educational support center headquarters at 1105 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee.

The meeting will include a presentation by Woodland administrators regarding the district’s concern for the funding mechanism for state chartered schools, its effect to date on District 50 and potential solutions. Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake is within the boundaries of Woodland and Fremont Elementary District 79. With a 392-student capacity, Prairie Crossing’s enrollment is determined by lottery.

Illinois’ per-pupil financial aid follows Woodland and Fremont children to Prairie Crossing. Woodland officials have voiced concern about losing revenue to Prairie Crossing. Woodland and Fremont parents don’t have to pay extra to send children to Prairie Crossing.
