Friendly wager between mayors at 'Volley for the Cure' Oct. 3

Mayor A. George Pradel has made a friendly wager with Wheaton Mayor Michael J. Gresk over the Volley for the Cure event taking place at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 3 in the Main Gym at Naperville Central High School, 440 W. Aurora Ave. This match will pit Naperville Central High School's volleyball teams against those of Wheaton Warrenville South in the name of raising funds for breast cancer research.

The winning team's Mayor will provide the losing team's Mayor with a school baseball cap to be displayed prominently at one of the losing team's future City Council meetings. Mayor Gresk made the wager with Mayor Pradel the week of September 26.

“I have great respect for Mayor Gresk and the City of Wheaton,” Mayor Pradel said. “This is all in lighthearted fun, because there are truly no losers in this bet. I'm so proud of Naperville and Wheaton Warrenville South students working together to help battle breast cancer and do their part to put an end to this dreadful disease. For me personally, my family has been touched by breast cancer. Of course, I will be at the event rooting for our Naperville Central volleyball players – Go Redhawks!”

Volley for the Cure raises money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that has evolved into the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cure. The entrance fee is $10; entry into the game is free if wearing a purchased T-shirt. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle will also take place.
