ARDC seeks to suspend Blagojevich's law license

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois agency that disciplines attorneys has asked the Illinois Supreme Court to suspend ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich's law license.

The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/qgAS1C ) reports that Blagojevich's lawyers have until Oct. 11 to respond to the request from the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.

Blagojevich has been an attorney in Illinois since 1984, although he hasn't practiced law since before he joined Congress in 1997.

The Chicago Democrat is currently awaiting sentencing. He was convicted of corruption charges that accused him of trying to sell or trade the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by President Barack Obama and other wrongdoing.

Having his license suspended is likely a step toward being disbarred. Two other former Illinois governors, Otto Kerner Jr. and Dan Walker, were disbarred after their convictions.
