Donations sought at S. Elgin Lions carnival
Submitted by South Elgin Lions
The South Elgin Lions will be collecting nonperishable food items or cash donations during its Autumn Fest Carnival starting this Thursday, Sept. 29, to Sunday, Oct. 2.
All food items or cash donations collected will be used for the yearly Holiday Food Basket Project and to support the South Elgin Food Pantry.
The Lions have assisted approximately 225 South Elgin families, which consisted of distributing approximately 6.75 tons of food and receiving more than $7,000 in donations and toys each year since 2009.
By combining these two fundraisers, the club is hoping the carnival will be successful and raise additional funds to support the club and its various projects, along with kicking off the Holiday Food Basket project that usually takes place around the second week of December.
The carnival will be at the Caputo's Fresh Markets, Silver Glen and Randall roads in South Elgin. It will be open Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. with an unlimited ride special for $20; 6 to 11 p.m. Friday; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday, with an unlimited ride special for $20 from 1 to 4 p.m.; 1 p.m. to closing Sunday, with an unlimited ride special for $20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The South Elgin Lions Club is constantly promoting diabetes awareness and provides hearing tests and hearing aids to those in financial need. The club keeps very active in the community by participating in South Elgin River Fest, Candy Day, hosting bingo Saturday nights and several fundraisers throughout the year.
With the money raised, our club has been able to make donations to South Elgin families in need, South Elgin Parks and Recreation's FUNdation, Holiday Food Baskets, Operation Jingle Bells, South Elgin Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Little Angels Nursing Home for severely disabled children, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 14 Shop With a Cop, South Elgin Youth Sports Teams, Special Olympics, Leader Dogs for the Blind and many others.
