Support American Cancer Society at the Palatine Chamber's Backyard BBQ Auction and Raffle

A hand decorated wooden ice chest representing the American Cancer Society will be available for purchase at a public auction to be held on Thursday, October 13th from 5:00-8:00 PM. The auction—to take place at the Cotillion Banquet Hall (360 S. Creekside Drive, Palatine)—is part of the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce's ‘Chillin' in Palatine' community art initiative.

The American Cancer Society's chest was decorated by John Krienitz and is one of 22 pieces. It debuted at the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce's community movie night on August 21st and was then placed on display in the Palatine community for the month of September. Display locations include Towne Square, the Palatine Train Station, the Village of Palatine and numerous other spots in the downtown area.

“In addition to the wooden ice chests, we also have 5 storage benches on display and will also appear at the auction,” stated project chair Liz Noe of ElizEvents. Noe continued, “Both of these items are perfect for indoor or outdoor use, so we expect to see some competition in the auction.”

Each artwork sponsor selected a local charity to support and the American Cancer Society is one of 13 charities selected to receive a portion of the proceeds from our auction item sale. Auction proceeds will also benefit the Palatine Area of Commerce scholarship fund.

Mindy Phillips, Chamber Director, stated, “We invite everyone to view the ice chests and storage benches online at our new website and look for their favorite.” The starting bids for the items are $125 each, so please consider attending and bidding on the American Cancer Society's piece—we'll receive 20% of the proceeds to support our services!

Tickets cost $35 until September 30th ($40 thereafter) and the event includes a Backyard BBQ-themed dinner, raffle prizes, and a chance to participate in the auctions. The registration form can be accessed at www.palatinechamber.com or by calling the Chamber office at (847) 359-7200. Featured entertainment for the evening will include acoustic guitarist Merv Collins, Irish entertainer Dr. Gerry Aylward and the award winning Quest Academy choir. And, new this year is an art raffle featuring works from the artists that decorated the pieces. Noe stated, "Our local artists are so talented we wanted to give them the chance to show off their skills. It's our way of supporting their entire body of work."
